Springtails are a tiny species of detritivore that, when added to a terrarium or vivarium, can help break down decomposing organic matter and return nutrients to the soil.

This clean-up crew help prevent mould, regulate plant growth, and require very little upkeep.

This microfauna (or, mesofauna) culture contains between 50-100 springtails. You can either add the entire colony to a terrarium, or use this as a starter culture to breed your own, larger colony, for use in other projects.

Benefits

  • Mould prevention and reduction
  • Springtails act as a clean-up crew, removing dead leaves
  • Removal of bad odours
  • Extra nutrition and fertiliser provided to plants to stimulate growth

Please Note

  • The Springtails will come in a plastic tub that has been taped together. Please be careful when unpackaging your order.
  • Each container weighs around
  • Each Springtail will grow to around 0.5mm in length
  • This species of Springtail will live in harmony with other bioactive set-up microfauna.
  • To decant, pour some water into the container and 'pool' the Springtails into one corner, then pour the Springtails into your terrarium or vivarium.

Make sure to keep your terrarium somewhere that gets bright, indirect
sunlight.

Keep away from anywhere that might experience fluctuating
temperatures, like on top of a windowsill or beside a radiator.

If the terrarium has no condensation, droopy leaves, light-coloured/dry
soil, and crispy moss – it may need gentle watering.

Use distilled or rainwater
from a mister to achieve an even, light distribution of water.

After months or years, you may need to prune excess growth
inside the terrarium.
